What is Mialo?

What does Mialo mean?

It's Greek (μυαλό), pronounced 'mee-a-low'. It means mind.

Do I need an account?

Yes. You sign in with Apple — no separate password or email needed.

How do I make an entry?

Tap the record button and talk — your words appear on screen as you speak. Tap again to save.

Why does it say "Inaudible"?

The recording was too quiet or short to transcribe. Try somewhere less noisy or hold the phone closer.

Can I edit a transcription?

Yes. Open the entry and tap the transcript to fix anything it misheard.

How do folders work?

Make one in two taps and give it a face — an emoji, a colour, or just a letter. File a log straight from the save sheet, or record directly into a folder from its page. Or don't file anything at all — loose entries are fine too.

What happens if I delete a folder?

The folder goes; the logs inside don't. They stay safe in your main journal.

What's the difference between Journal and Pro?

Journal ($2.99/mo) keeps everything 100% private and on-device. No AI, no servers. Pro ($7.99/mo) adds AI pattern analysis, smart titles, journal chat, and personalised follow-up questions — your data is processed by AI but never sold or used to train models, and deleted within 30 days.

How do I upgrade?

Go to Settings → Your Plan.

What happens if I cancel?

You keep full access until the billing period ends. After that your journal goes read-only — everything stays safe and readable forever, you just can't add new entries.

Does Mialo store my voice recordings?

Journal plan: no. Everything stays on your device. Pro plan: recordings are processed for transcription and analysis but not stored permanently.

Is my data sold?

Never.

How do I delete everything?

Settings → scroll to the bottom → Delete all data.

Why can't I see insights yet?

You need at least 3 entries in the selected time range.

How often can I regenerate?

Once per time range every 12 hours, or when you add new entries.

How do streaks work?

One entry per day keeps your streak going. Missing a day resets it.

I logged today but my streak broke.

Make sure the entry saved fully. Streak is based on calendar day in your local timezone.

What are the daily notifications?

One question a day, at the time you choose — morning (~9am), midday (~1pm), or evening (~8pm). Morning questions ask about the day ahead; evening ones look back. You'll also get a heads-up if your streak is about to break, and a little check-in on your birthday.

How do I turn them off?

Settings → Notifications → Daily nudge toggle.

Do I have to answer the daily prompt?

No. The question is there if you want a head start — one a day, at the time you choose (morning, midday, or evening). Ignore it and just talk about whatever's on your mind. A prompt is one way in, free-form is another.

Is Mialo a therapy replacement?

No. It's a place to get the stuff in your head out of your head. If you need a therapist, see a therapist. Mialo makes those sessions, and the weeks in between, a lot more useful.

How is this different from voice memos?

Voice memos give you a wall of unlabeled clips. Mialo asks you a question, writes your words on screen while you're still saying them, tags the mood, files it where you want, and follows up days later. It's the difference between hoarding files and having a record you can actually read.

What does the AI actually see?

On Journal, nothing. Transcription happens on your phone and your entries are never uploaded — there's no AI at all. On Pro, your entries are AI-processed for insights. Never sold, never used to train models, deleted within 30 days — and no human at Mialo ever reads them.

What if I delete the app?

Delete the app and it's gone from your phone — we hold nothing, so there's nothing of yours on any server, ever. If you switched on iCloud backup, your journal waits safely in your own iCloud and comes back the moment you reinstall. Turn backup off or delete the iCloud copy anytime in Settings.

Why voice and not typing?

Typing makes you edit. You stop the thought, fix the spelling, second-guess the tone. By the time you hit send, you've sanded down the thing you actually meant. Speaking skips all of that.

What phones does it work on?

iPhone only. Requires iOS 16 or later.
